Irrigation Tubing to
Trash Bags
Revolution Bag, Little Rock, Ark., turns
trash into trash bags—literally.
Last year the manufacturer began
production of its EPA-compliant trash
bags, which are made from postconsumer resin (PCR) comprised almost
entirely from recycled irrigation tubing.
Revolution Bag’s parent company,
Delta Plastics, makes disposable irrigation tubing for farmers across
the South. Delta picks up millions of
pounds of used tubing (free of charge)
after the harvest season and cleans it,
and then uses it as its raw material to
manufacture new trash bags.
The closed-loop process is not only
environmentally friendly, it creates an
entirely new product in the process.
Revolution Bags don’t cost any more
and perform as well as bags produced
with virgin resin, according to the company. All of its current product lines are
now SCS- (Scientific Certification Sys-tem-) certified.
“Weʼre excited to have this objective, third-party confirmation of the sustainable manufacturing focus that goes
into each and every bag we make,” said
David Rives, vice president of sales and
marketing for Revolution Bag.
